The North/South rail project is a project to connect North and South Stations with a tunnel to permit through commuter rail travel. While Alternative 7 does not need the North/South rail connection to work, it makes absolute sense to connect them and build them together.

The TMT#2 would connect directly to the North/South Rail tunnel at Back Bay Station. Because the entrance portal for the current above ground Worcester commuter line would be at Allston, there would be no disruption from the construction of the entrance portal now planned at Back Bay Station. Alternatively, the current Worcester – Boston service could remain above ground and only the high-speed line would utilize the TMT#2. The East/West Line trains would then share Back Bay and South Boston Station before splitting off to go to the Seaport Station and on to Logan Airport.

The North/South rail project has had extensive study and pricing which can be utilized in estimating the timing, permitting and construction cost of Alternative 7.
